Trembling on the floor, pressed beneath a row of seats in a dark theater, college freshman Jason Tripp listens to the terrifying sound of gunshots, as an unknown shooter moves methodically through the theater, randomly murdering men, women, and children attending a student performance of Hamlet. Junior Liam Norcross drapes his massive body on top of Jason, sheltering the younger man from the deathly hail of bullets, risking his life willingly, and maybe even eagerly. As a result of the shared horror, an extraordinary bond forms between the two young men, causing discomfort for family and friends, and for Jason and Liam, themselves. Added to the challenge of two previously “straight” men falling into a same-sex love, are the complications that arise from the abundance of secrets Liam holds with regard to a past family tragedy. The fledgling passion between the men seems bound to fade away into the darkness from which it emerged. Jason, however, is inexplicably called to rescue his hero in return, by delving into Liam’s shady past and uncovering the mystery that compels the older man to act as the college town’s selfless savior. The Art of Hero Worship takes the reader on a voyage from the dark and chilling chaos that accompanies a mass shooting to the thrill of an unexpected and sensual romance.

The art of hers worship

I'm a bit lost on what and how to review this beautiful heart wrenching uplifting tale of two human beings finding a love that may have never come to be if not for the horrific events cementing something more than just friendship, a bromance, or hero worshiping.

My God, their...well Jase's need of understanding and the confusing fear towards his feelings for Liam (who was more of the go with the flow type of attitude) was spot on for the feelings I was having towards their feelings for each other. -groans-

I hate myself for being so dang on baffled because I understand my attraction and love for certain men. I understand my brother attraction and love for other men. I understand my parents (straight couple) love and attractions to each other. I even understand those who are attracted and can fall in love with both sexes as well as understanding transgenders and cross dressers but try as I might I just could not understand how two people who have only ever wanted and ever been attracted to one particular sex breaks those rules of society that you are straight or gay or bi or born into the wrong sex.

Then I read this..."I love a human being, not a gender or a sexual orientation."

I still don't get it but I do get it. As human beings, we'll never truly have an understanding of why we exist but while we do exist to have the good fortune to fall in love with another human being whose love mirrors yours is one of the most precious gifts you could ever be so fortunate to find and hold on to.

I mean think about it. You have humans that will risk their life and the lives of other human beings for a dog or any animal they deem as family. Animal lovers understand this. So why would that type of devotion not be granted from one human to another. I don't understand because I've not experienced it or know anyone who has personally but there is so much in this world and in the workings of human beings that is still unknown.

So, ugh! I loved this story. I wasn't happy how Liam was treated by Jase because regardless of a persons gender, rejection burns. And I just loved Liam's faith in Jase and his strength and his heart. I won't lie, I wanted one of them to have been gay. Meaning a time in their life they pushed away some feelings they may have a had for a guy but didn't understand. But even though that wasn't the case I was Team Jase and Liam all the way .

And OH MY GOD! For those of you who know how I usually just skip the erotic part of a story, you'll be proud of me because I could not wait for Jase and Liam's "sexual intimacy exploration" of each other's body. And when they were both finally...oh my God...finally on that same page to equally to "celebrate the physical aspects of love between two consenting adults" -sigh, fanning myself- I personally couldn't even consider it erotica...just the newness, the gentleness between their touches, the roughness, and I don't know... it was just beautiful to me. And I can't think like a gay guy or any guy for that matter but I hope people find this story as broken and beautiful as I did.

Dang it! I want you to like this story!!!!!! Love it as much as I do!!! I demand it! -pouting and stomping my feet-

Man oh man how I wish Greg Tremblay would narrate this... for me...if for no one else. -sigh-

The Art of Hero Worship Mia Kerick Books Reviews

Damn. Just...just damn. I mean that in a good way. I literally just finished this book. I set the down and came straight here. I'm not going to say much because I'm overwhelmed. I only wanted to say that I was completely bowled over by "The Art of Hero Worship", and it took my breath away. Thank you, Mia Kerick, for giving me this gift.
I cannot say enough about this book. I was literally hooked from the very beginning. The story of Liam and Jason was just lovely and heartbreaking. It makes me hope that something so beautiful (even with a few bumps in between) can come out of something so horrible. I wish there was more to the end, but I am still satisfied by the outcome and in my mind they truly have their HEA ).

This is my second book by this author and she does bit disappoint! I actually have listed and read Random Acts over and over. She truly has an art in storytelling.
This story started with "pop pop pop" the sound of gunshots in a theater. Jason is scared and is panicking that he is about to die - - out of nowhere a body is pushing him down on the floor and telling him to keep still and quiet. Liam saves Jason that night and couple nights later. A friendship resulted from their experience. They both lost people they knew that night and the trauma of the experience manifest in various ways for each of them. Jason struggles to function as he once did and only feels like himself when he is with Liam. Liam for all intent and purposes tends to be the hero and this need to save people stems from an extremely traumatic incident in his past as a child. As he and Jason gets closer, Jason will try to save him from his demons. One thing that seem to be missing from the story was the reason for the shooter's behavior and why it appeared he was going directly after Liam. Overall this was a good story.
This is most certainly not your normal m/m romance. Liam and Jase are both attending an event on campus when a deranged shooter starts to spread carnage. Bullets are flying, people are falling, bleeding, dying. It's a shocking start to the story. Jase is petrified, nearly literally. Liam protects him as best he can until they can make a run for an escape. This is an extremely intense event to experience together, and these two are bonded in a unique way.

Liam and Jase are not gay. They both had prior relationships with women. There is something that has them connected, though. Jase asks himself, " Can two men experience emotional and sexual satisfaction with each other when they aren't gay?" This is an extremely emotional journey for Jase and Liam, and very effectively written. After you get to know these two MCs, you will be rooting for them to have the HEA that they very much deserve.
I have tried to write a review several times for this story and each time I have erased it. I still don't know what to say. This was unexpected, intense, emotional, heartbreaking and heartwarming. The cover is incredible. This is how I saw Liam. I really loved how the relationship between Jason and Liam evolved. It was built on horror, and tested by the aftermath of ptsd and past family trauma. I have to say that Jason turning away from Liam was heartbreaking and I struggled to understand why he was doing it, because it was clear that they both needed each other. Risking your heart is painful. Jason says to Liam 'I broke up with you because loving you hurts'. Liam says to Jason, 'I promise I'll never foolishly risk my safety again, Jase. My life with you means way too much to me.' The ending, well I got a bit teary eyed. Who wouldn't when they love with their eyes. It really comes down to being the hero that each other needed, promises learned, made and kept. Another well done story by Mia Kerick.
