Thirty-seven-year-old fitness fanatic and gym owner John Moorcroft has always known he was gay, and he has always had a problem admitting it, even to himself. After a failed attempt at a relationship with Roslyn, his longtime female BFF, he knows he must take a hard look at himself. The first thing John does is to try to find out what happened to his mother, who disappeared when he was four years old. Roslyn recommends Sky Cook Investigations to help him. The first time John meets Sky he finds himself extremely attracted to the man's bear-like physique and eager-to-please manner.

Sky Cook, thirty-six years old, is sweet, mild mannered and desperately in need of a health regimen. He knows he needs to lose weight but is thwarted by issues from his childhood. Sky also wants a loving yet dominant man to direct him, so when John suggests they barter services, the perfect storm for a relationship unfolds.

The Skinny on Love Fyn Alexander Books

John is so in the closet he can't admit to himself that the sexual encounters he has with men mean he is gay. His mother walked out on the family when he was four (his falter said she died of cancer, neighbors say he murdered he and hid the body) and his father was difficult, very Catholic and not accepting. He retired from the Army as a Captain and now owns a gym. He has decided to look for his Mum and for that he finds Sky, a private detective. John is fit and well put together, Sky has an eating addiction and is a big bear of a man with weight and esteem issues. Sky is openly gay which John rejects at first because he is straight (well that is what he keeps telling everyone including himself). Imagine their surprise when Sky's a quickie in a BDSM club turns out to be John - awkward!
Both men are damaged by their past. Sky was a Romanian 'orphan' who not only endured hunger, neglect and abandonment but also abuse. John was abandoned and emotionally neglected. They decide to trade services - Sky will find John's Mum, John will find Sky's waistline. Their relationship develops and there is BDSM involved with the Master/Slave focus - but it is mutual and it is a need fulfilled by both of them.
I really like this book and couldn't stop reading it. It wasn't what I thought it was going to be - it was actually quite different but very, very enjoyable. If Fyn Alexander writes more like this I will be first in line.

The Skinny on Love Fyn Alexander Books Reviews

The preview made this interesting, but in the preview there was no indication that the relationship was going to be built around BDSM. If you enjoy that, you might like this story. I found little that was attractive in either of the MCs. John is rude, closeted, and mostly angry. Sky has a personality and behaviors that as as odd as his chosen name. I returned the book.
I really enjoy Fyn Alexander's books, especially the Angel and the Assassin stories. This one was totally different, and has a very original premise. The characters are especially atypical and I appreciated reading something that didn't follow a cookie cutter genre fiction predictable storyline etc. I read it all the way through without putting it down. It took a while for the characters to "click" for me, but once they did I enjoyed them together. I do think the book would have been more enjoyable if we'd known Sky's backstory earlier on, rather than in the final chapters. Understanding his history made his food issues and his love for the very stern and issue-ridden John make sense.
Oh I just loved Sky , what he went through at the orphanage was heartbreaking. I guess that explains why he got into the BDSM scene. He was such a gentle man, never losing his temper. Now John would try the patience of a saint! Never fear Sky tames him in the end. This was a nice long book about 3500 locations with a dash of mystery thrown in, everything comes together in the end. These men were very forgiving. Family hurts can last a lifetime. I guess only by forgiving can you set yourself free. I will never look at food the same way after reading this book. I sat up a long time after finishing this book just thinking about the what ifs in life...
I totally agree with Lala-Lately, I loved “The Angel And The Assassin.”

And I also agree this book is written in a totally different format. I enjoyed the whole BDSM thing going on in the Angel book.

And, generally, I enjoy dipping into books regarding that topic occasionally….Just love Keegan’s work…It’s very………..
Shall we say….

Creative???? ;) hehehe

Anywhoooo…
I just didn’t get the feeling from this book that the subject was about BDSM.
Yes, there were two or three scenes that included a belt, a whip- with one tail, and a set of handcuffs. But that's just too light for my definition BDSM. That’s just two people sharing a kink. There’s a difference. The scenes were just touched lightly too. By that I mean, the author didn’t really give too much detail, such as how the skin looked, or how hot it felt when done, stuff like that.

There wasn’t even any blood, as in Anah’s book “Uneven.” That’s another good BDSM book, but not if you’re squeamish about blood. }

BUT! What was unequivocally clear in the story’s plot is that John and Sky had an “Odd Couple” relationship going on. (Remember those two roommates??? HAHAHA)

And there is no denying that Fyn totally nailed the topic of food addiction and the conundrum of “comfort foods.” (Curse you Golden Ar….um….I mean ….Junk Food!!!….GRRRRRR....shakes fist at sky….)

Personally, I found the two main characters interactions endearing! This book even had me giggling in one or two places, despite its serious nature. And, since I just love to laugh, anything that makes me laugh gets an A++ rating from me!

As a matter of fact, I highlighted a really good bit that I have just gotta include in this review. Just in case anyone’s curious…

In this scene John and Sky are at a hotel and getting ready to go out to dinner. Poor Sky has been put on one of those infamous “lifestyle changing plans” otherwise known as …a DIET!!! So….he’s really, really hungry at this point. (If you’ve ever been though this…You KNOW what fun it is!)

“With dismay Sky watched him walk into the bathroom and close the door. A shower and possibly another shave. That would take an hour at least for a man like John. Sky could shower and throw on clean clothes in seven minutes flat, especially if food was on the horizon. His belly felt like his throat had been cut. He should just go out alone and eat. He could meet John later.

The bathroom door opened revealing John’s lean, muscular body, completely naked. ‘And don’t even think of going anywhere. You can wait for me.’ He closed the door.

‘Are you a bloody mind reader?’ Sky said under his breath.

The door opened again. ‘Yes, and I have very good hearing.’ He closed the door and then opened it again. ‘In fact you could use a shower and a change of shirt.’

‘I only brought one extra. It’s for tomorrow.’ The door closed again.

Sky sat down in the chair, his stomach growling. (Now he thinks I’m a dirty slob as well as a fat slob.) “

So, yeah…I admit, that scene tickled me pink! And there’s more to it too, but I don’t want to spoil it too much. )

I do feel the need to mention that while I giggled in some parts of the book, it had a serious side too. Taboo subjects were touched upon in this book. Child beating, child molestation, rape and child prostitution, as in 6 year’s old!!
Thankfully, the reader wasn’t given any gruesome details…And it’s all in retrospect.

In conclusion, I just want to add that I thought these two MC’s were wonderful, and if Fyn Alexander should ever decide on a sequel, or two…or three…well…that would be just awesome!
